Big Girl!

Guess who had her first bath AND her first bottle?! She handled both like a champ. She loved her bath. She's a little fish! She took her bottle on the first try. Such a good girl.

She has suffered from gas a little bit lately so mommy is laying off the dairy. (Ugh...) Hopefully that will help!

She also went in the stroller for the first time and used her little gym for the first time. She loved her gym and is good in the stroller...as long as it is moving.

First Time in the Treasured Crib

Georgia ventured out to her Nana Matt's this weekend and was finally able to take a nap in the treasured crib. This crib has been in my family for over 100 years. Anyone and everyone in my family used this crib. Uncle Greg re-finished it for his and Terry's kids. Terry had beautiful new bedding made for it. I had planned on keeping it at the condo, but we don't have the space, unfortunately. Mommy did not plan well with that and has major guilt about it. However, the good news is, Georgia can use it when she it at her Nana's! I love that she uses it there and she did well in it over the weekend. How cute is she in her little crib?!

Updates

Taking care of Baby G and blogging isn't easy. When I have free time I want to do laundry, shower, clean, rest, etc. I hardly ever turn my laptop on anymore and have yet to upload and print any photos from my trusty Snapfish account. Thank God for my Blackberry or I'd never be in touch with the outside world! I also haven't been able to figure out how to upload videos to the blog. I can upload them very easily to Facebook, so check out the videos on my FB page.

I did my research last week after a few bad nights of her being awake all night. As it turns out, it is not uncommon for babies to have their days and nights mixed up. I implemented a few tricks from some books and she had three amazing nights where she only woke up once! Mom and Dad got some good sleep. She hasn't had such great nights after those three, but nothing like when she had her days and nights mixed up. I try to keep her on a schedule during the day, but life does get in the way sometimes. And heck, she is just over two weeks old, she's allowed to not be so perfect at night.

She had her second doctor appt last week and it went well. She was back up to her birth weight and is now supposed to put on an oz a day. Mommy is feeling the pressure to produce! Literally! The doctor was very impressed by her head strength. GA has lifted her head from day one and hasn't stopped since. She's also already trying to roll over. She's impressive. I have even begun to notice that when I go to get her out of her crib she isn't in the same place that she was when I placed her in there at the beginning of her nap.

Mommy is starting to get a little stir crazy staying in the house all day. I think later this week we'll take a walk. We have been lucky enough to have Nana Matt come by one day per week since we have been home. It's super fun to have her here during the day! She makes sure that Mommy eats well, helps take care of GA and just spends quality time with us. We love our Nana Matt visits! Auntie Judy is going to come by for a day soon. We can't wait! We are also starting to line up other visitors. I can't wait to show off my baby in person!!!

Mommy is so thankful for the help and support she has received from her friends and family. They have offered great tips! Auntie Meredith is always available on BBM, Aunt Terry is easily a text away and Mommy has many other friends and family to call on with any questions. Georgia is a lucky girl to have so many people that love her.

Speaking of things to be thankful for, what the heck did mothers do before things like www.diapers.com, www.soap.com and www.safeway.com?! What a dream these websites are!! Sure makes like easy for mothers still recovering from giving birth and those who are nervous to leave their babies.

I'll try to be better about blogging! I have spent all my time getting her into a routine, but I guess I need to get myself into one!

Day and Night, Night and Day

My little girl has her days and nights mixed up. She liked to party (aka scream) all night and sleep all day. Any tips from other moms out there?!

Nola

Poor baby Nola. She has had a rough week. She is clearly upset about the new addition to her family. She is jealous. It's obvious. Especially when she pukes. Puking has been a trend this week. After seeing me breast feeding in the glider one very early morning she turned around and puked. That's what she thinks of Georgia! We did see a sign of improvement which I wish I had a photo of. I had baby GA on my chest, trying to get her to sleep when Nola came up and rested on my legs. I had both my girls sleeping on me! Heaven.

First Doctor Visit

She's such a champ! We took her for her first doctor visit this week and she did so well! She cried only a TINY bit in the waiting room and that's probably because she was still tied into her car seat. During the exam though, not a peep out of her. The doctor was impressed by her weight gain and even weighed her twice to make sure it was correct. We go back in a couple weeks. The photo above is her all ready for her first outing! Couldn't you just eat her up!?

Our Little Peach

She's a week old today and is settling in quite nicely. According to my mom and aunt, she's a really good baby. Clearly, I have no frame of reference. We have had no trouble breast feeding and she's just about as docile as can be. She loves, loves, LOVES to be cuddled. We have had some issues at night and it's probably due to all the day time cuddling. She is held all day and then is put in the crib at night. I'm sure she is wondering what he heck happened and she's lonely. So, she has had her days and nights mixed up. I had a couple breakdowns about it since I haven't gotten much sleep at night. I ended up laying her on my chest and having her sleep there with me a couple mornings...early, early mornings. However, we had a breakthrough last night and here's hoping it keeps up. I swaddled her extremely well, keeping her hands out of her mouth. Bill figured out (while up with her early Saturday morning) that if she can get her hands to her mouth she cries. By swaddling her super good AND making sure she sleeps during the day in her crib, it seems to have worked. We got sleep last night! She woke up on schedule during the night, ate, had her diaper changed and went back to bed. Fingers crossed this is the start of a good night cycle for us!!

Good tid bit from when we were in the hospital:
Bill and I were fighting over who got to hold her. He said, "you had her for 9 months!" LOL!!

She's HERE!

She's here! She has arrived! Georgia Marie was born at Georgetown hospital on 1-2-11 at 3:48am and weighed 8 pounds 5 oz.

Though I have no frame of reference, I would say the labor was pretty smooth and dare I say, easy. I woke up Saturday morning with some pains in my stomach. I had a feeling it was starting so I went ahead and took a shower and straightened my hair. Then I got upset because I thought the pains had gone away. I was dreading going to the doctor on Tuesday and having to be induced. I really wanted to experience the whole labor process and did not want to show up for a scheduled labor. I wanted the surprise. Well, that's what I got!

My mom had been planning to come by with dinner for us. I called her and suggested that she bring any items she planned on needing for spending the night at the hospital, just in case. Good thing I did! I ended up feeling some pretty good gas-like pains. I walked around, timed them and felt like they were pretty tolerable. I took a bath to relax and then got my bags in order. I called the doctor and based on what I relayed to him, he offered for me to come in or to stay at home for as long as I could take it. I decided to stay home as I was nervous that the labor wasn't even real labor and they'd just send me home. About an hour labor it was a joint decision between me, Mom and Bill to go to Georgetown. On the way there I was still thinking that I should have stuck it out at home a little longer. Good thing I didn't! They checked me and I was already almost 7cm. The doctor was shocked based on how I explained my pain on the phone to him. I was immediately given my epidural and the process started.

I have to say, I was surprised at how calm the whole thing was. I didn't cry or yell. I joked that I was having a quiet Scientology birth. Truth be told, my mom cried enough for all of us! I was in such a state of shock and couldn't believe that it had all happened and she was here.

We moved in our recovery room the following morning with our little pumpkin and immediately started sending out texts and emails. Bill sent a note to Mike Allen from Politico Playbook and what do ya know, Miss Georgia was announced in Sunday's email edition. We are still getting emails from people who saw her birth announcement in Playbook. She's famous!

We are now home and settling into our new normal. We are so blessed to have such a lovely little lady in our lives. She is such a cuddler.
